WAG Women's Artistic Gymnastics

    WAG Women's Artistic Gymnastics

Women’s Gymnastics is a dynamic sport to teach your daughter the co-ordination and confidence to develop a high level of flexibility, strength and fitness. It involves the performance of routines in a competitive environment using a variety of skills on the four apparatus: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. During training, the girls use all areas of the gym including trampolines and climbing ropes to develop their strength and achieve skills as they progress through the levels 1 through 10.  Progression through each level is not based on time in the level but ability to meet the skill requirements of the next level.

Competition gymnasts are selected by trial and invitation from the club with our GfA members taking priority.  It is not necessary  to start in Level 1 if the required skills have been achieved in our GfA program.  The club will consider accepting gymnasts from other clubs by exception in our higher levels. If your child is a current WAG gymnast level 4+ please email the club attention to "Head WAG coach".

Due to the increased commitment required to be successful in this program, attendance is expected at all training sessions. Makeup classes are not available and no refund will be issued for missed sessions.

Competitions

Competitions are held at the State Gymnastic Centre at Marion and are compulsory, with the opportunity to also participate in country and interclub competitions.

For competitions, gymnasts will be required to purchase a club leotard, scrunchie, jacket and bag.  If purchasing secondhand, ensure they are WAG items.  Black leggings can be purchased where available.  In higher levels, gymnasts will also require a WAG training leotard for podium training which occurs prior to the competition.

Parental help is required at competitions usually as a door person, panel secretary, judge or music operator. Courses are offered annually to gain judging accreditation.

All parents will be expected to help at some stage.
